Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening for the beauty of your smile

Teeth Whitening is a process of removing discolouration and stains from the teeth using a bleaching process, and making the teeth appear “whiter”.

At Rathgar Dental, we offer patients the Zoom Advance Tooth Whitening System.

Zoom Advance Whitening procedure

The Zoom Advance tooth whitening is a procedure that takes place at the dental surgery and uses a light-activated bleaching gel to whiten your teeth. This procedure normally takes approximately I-2 hours and produces instant whitening results.
Prior to the treatment, you would have a consultation where the dentist will check suitability, explain the benefits, risks and side effects. You will also be asked to complete and sign a form to state you have fully understood the risks and the procedure.
What causes Tooth Discolouration?
The most common causes can be aging, and consumption of certain foods, drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine, colas and smoking and the natural white shade can become darker as a result.

Benefits of Teeth Whitening and Suitability

Almost anyone can benefit from this whitening procedure to achieve their desired look.
Whitening can help correct yellow, brown spots / stains as well as making the overall teeth whiter, giving you a brighter, whiter smile.
However, the effectiveness of the treatment will vary from individual to individual depending on the circumstances.
Our dentist will determine the viability at the consultation process and advise further, along with a shade assessment.

How much whiter will my teeth look?

This will vary from individual to individual and dependant on the treatment time. Some people may respond well to the procedure and have dramatic results, whilst others may not notice a suitable difference. People who may have more heavily discoloured and stained teeth may have a more dramatic result compared to those who have a slight discolouration.
Our dentist will be able to advise the likely result at the consultation process.

Is Teeth Whitening safe?

Yes. Tooth Whitening is considered to be safe when carried out by a professional dentist. Extensive research and clinical studies have shown that Tooth whitening is one of the safest cosmetic dental procedures available.
However, Whitening is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women or children under 13 years of age.
Does Teeth Whitening Hurt / Are there any side effects?
This depends on the individual. Some people experience no pain or sensitivity, but others may experience different degrees of sensitivity during and after the procedure. A patient may have sharp shooting pains but this should subside within 48 hours. Our dentist will be able to advise further after the treatment.
It is advisable to avoid hot or cold foods and drinks up to 48 hours after the whitening treatment to avoid sensitivity.
