Veneers

Veneers have long been used to improve one’s smile by transforming stained, crooked or damaged teeth into a brighter, whiter and straight new smile.

What is a Dental Veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured material, usually made of porcelain or ceramic. They are cemented to fit over the surface of the front of the tooth, similar to how a false nail fits over a fingernail.

When are Veneers recommended?

There are a variety of reasons why dental veneers are recommended to enhance a person’s smile:

  • Discoloured or Stained teeth – colour of the teeth can be improved by fitting veneers and by colour matching to achieve a natural, white bright smile
  • Damaged teeth – teeth which have been damaged, worn or chipped over the years can be covered with a veneer to create a seamless finish and perfect smile
  • Gaps – gaps or slight spaces in-between your teeth can be closed using veneers to create a smooth perfectly aligned smile.
  • Bite correction – veneers can be used to correct a bite or crooked teeth in minor cases, however the dentist will assess the situation at your consultation to find the best long term solution for you.

How is a Dental Veneer fitted?

The tooth is prepared by removing some of the shiny enamel surface of the tooth, to ensure that the veneer can be permanently bonded. To make sure the tooth remains the same size, only a small amount of enamel is removed and a similar thickness of Veneer will be used.
A local anesthetic injection is administered so there is no pain or discomfort. Once the tooth is prepared, the dentist will take an impression “mould”. This mould and the colour shades will be sent to the dental laboratory where your unique custom-made veneers are made to the exact measurements.
When the Veneers are ready, they will be bonded with a special adhesive glue (like a super-glue) to the prepared tooth to ensure it permanently stays fixed.

How long is the procedure?

The procedure takes two visits. In the first visit, the tooth is prepared, impressions are taken and colours and shades are matched. All the moulds and information are then sent to the Dental lab where the veneers are made.
In the second visit, before the veneers are bonded, the dentist will show you the veneer against your tooth to make sure you are entirely happy. The new Veneers are then permanently bonded with special glue, and you will be left with a natural, beautiful looking restoration.

How long do Dental Veneers last?

Veneers can last many years, however, they may chip or break or will eventually need to be replaced. Small chips can be repaired or new veneers can be fitted if necessary. Your dentist will be able to advise you depending on the situation. To ensure your veneers last for a long time, visit your dentist for regular check-ups and maintain a good oral-hygiene program

What about Aftercare?

Your dentist will discuss care and maintenance of your veneers at your second visit and explain the aftercare policy.
All treatments are covered under our Guarantee Scheme.

What is the next step?

Once you have decided that veneers are for you, the next step is to call and arrange a full consultation with one of our dentists who will listen to your needs and envisage how you would like your smile to be. The dentist will present you with the best treatment options and costs, and offer alternative options, if necessary. Treatment will not start until you are completely happy. The dentist will then prepare the teeth, and ensure that your veneers are carefully crafted to your exact requirements.
